Books

A Traitor to Memory
by Elizabeth George

An artfully mastered mystery novel about a young virtuoso violinist who suddenly stops playing and walks off stage.  Until his psychological issues and moral dilemmas are properly dealt with, he is unable to go on with his life in any manner.  The many twists and turns in the unfolding of this complexly original tale keep you tightly gripping the novel far into the wee hours desperately wanting to know who did what to whom and when?  This delicious confusion drives the book.  Everyone is suspect, even the law.

Movies

Gran Torino
Directed by Clint Eastwood.

Directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Clint Eastwood, Christopher Carley, Bee Vang, a disgruntled Korean War veteran, Walt Kowalski decides to reform his neighbour and ends up befriending and saving his life and honour.  I was touched by this rough main character who, although flawed, made sense of his world the only way he knew how.  There are rarely happy endings in real life.  The movie is currently playing at the following cinemas in Montreal:

Music

Soul
Seal

A soulful soul album by the same name.  Seal carries the old and new tunes with his soft baritones and milky mellow.  My favourite tune is definitely A Change is Gonna Come.
Check out his website http://www.seal.com/
and don't miss his special on Larry King Live tonight on CNN, January 19, 2009.  He deserves the success he has worked so hard to achieve.
